"Feiya, Paizo Iconic Witch"
Art test for Paizo Publishing
Copic marker and colored pencil on paper
2012

I submitted my portfolio to Paizo at GenCon 2012, and was asked to do one of their iconics as a test. This is the first opportunity I've had to do it. I chose the witch because she is my favorite of Wayne Reynolds' Pathfinder designs.

Your marker skills are extremely impressive, especially the contrast you achieve.

It's very good, well drawn and colored with many details.
Your brain sends very good instructions to your hand.
Really you're well calibrated to draw :)

A brilliant peace. You've outdone yourself. I think this is one of the more complex images I have seen in your gallery, for the pose, color, and elements of costume. Haw did you decide on the pose?... if you don't mind me asking.

Well, I tend to work poses out as I do them with no real planning, however, in this case, I wanted room to get all the details which meant working at a larger size, so the size of the paper created restrictions. I could either compact her into a squatting pose or not draw her full figure. Also, I've seen quite a bit of these "Paizo Art Test" pics appearing on deviantART and I wanted a pose that was fairly unique and would hopefully make the pic memorable. Finally this pose meant that I could hide some of the bits and pieces hanging from her belt, making for a faster render.

Thanks for explaining.
The squatting pose did allow you to maximize the space well. Excellent image.
